The soldering iron head, also known as the welding nozzle, is one of the consumables with a large amount of electronic welding. The correct use and maintenance of the soldering iron head can not only improve the service life of the soldering iron head, but also improve the quality of welding products, reduce the number and time of repair, and greatly reduce production costs. The following is our summary of several simple and commonly used soldering iron head maintenance methods.

1. Before welding operation
Before electronic welding, it is necessary to first remove the wet water from the high temperature cleaning sponge and then squeeze out the excess water. Only in this way can the soldering iron head get the most effective cleaning effect. If you use a non-moist cleaning sponge, it will damage the soldering iron tip and cause no tinning. 2, welding operations
By referring to the following correct welding sequence, soldering can greatly protect the soldering iron tip and reduce the oxidation rate of the nozzle.

3, after the completion of welding operations
After the welding operation is completed, the temperature is adjusted to about 250℃, and then the soldering iron head is cleaned, and then the soldering iron head is protected by a layer of new tin, which can protect the nozzle and air isolation, and the nozzle will not oxidize with oxygen in the air.
4. Protection when the welding table is not in use
When the welding table is not used, the soldering iron head should not be kept in a high temperature state for a long time, which will convert the solder on the soldering iron head into oxide, resulting in a great decrease in the thermal conductivity of the soldering iron head. The power supply should be turned off when the welding table is not in use (for the welding table without temperature control and automatic sleep function).
5, how to deal with when the soldering iron head has been oxidized
① First set the temperature to 300℃, clean the welding nozzle with a cleaning sponge, and check the condition of the welding nozzle.
② If the tin layer of the solder tip contains black oxide, a new tin layer can be plated, and then clean the solder tip with a clean sponge. This is repeated until the oxide is completely removed, and then a new tin layer is plated.
③ If the nozzle is deformed or perforated, the new nozzle must be replaced.
④ Note: do not use file to remove the oxide on the nozzle.

6. Other precautions for the use of soldering iron
A. Don't apply too much pressure
Do not apply too much pressure to welding, otherwise the soldering iron tip will be damaged and deformed. As long as the soldering iron head is fully in contact with the solder joint, the heat can be transferred without strong welding.
b, try to use low temperature welding
High temperature welding will accelerate the oxidation of the soldering iron head and reduce the service life of the soldering iron head. If the temperature of the soldering iron head exceeds 470 ° C, its oxidation rate is twice that of 380 ° C.
c, often keep the soldering iron head tin
This can reduce the chance of oxidation of the soldering iron tip, so that the soldering iron tip is more durable, after use, the temperature of the soldering iron tip should be slightly reduced before adding new solder, so that the tin layer has a better anti-oxidation effect.
d, keep the soldering iron head clean and clean the oxide in time
If there is black oxide on the tip of the iron, it is very likely to fail to tin, and it must be cleaned immediately. When cleaning, first adjust the temperature of the soldering iron tip to about 250℃, and then clean with a cleaning sponge, and then tin. Repeat until the oxide is removed.
e. Carefully put the soldering iron into the soldering iron rack
When the soldering iron is not in use on the welding frame, it should be carefully placed on the appropriate welding iron frame to avoid damage to the soldering iron head by collision, or because the soldering iron frame cannot automatically sleep and burn the soldering iron.
f, choose a suitable soldering iron head
In the welding operation, the selection of the size and shape of the iron head is very important. The right soldering tip can make the work more efficient and increase the durability of the soldering tip. Once the wrong soldering head is selected, it will not only affect the welding efficiency of the soldering iron, but also reduce the welding quality.

And the size of the iron head is directly related to the heat capacity, the larger the iron head, the greater the heat capacity. For continuous welding, the larger the iron head, the less the temperature drop.
In addition, because of the high heat capacity of the large soldering iron head, a relatively low temperature can be used when welding, and the soldering iron head is not easy to oxidize, greatly increasing its life. Therefore, the short and thick iron head transfers heat faster than the thin iron head, and is more durable. In general, the size of the soldering iron head is not affected by the adjacent components. The selection of geometric soldering tip that can fully contact with the solder joint can greatly improve the welding efficiency.
5, the choice of soldering iron head
According to the above, the choice of soldering tip (also known as solder tip) is very important, it not only affects the welding effect and solder tip life, but more importantly, it will play a greater value according to the package form of different chips. The following factors are mainly considered when choosing a soldering iron head:
1) Select the size of the soldering iron head according to the size of the solder joint and the density of the solder joint;
2) Select the shape of the soldering iron head according to the type of welding components, the ease of contact of the solder joint and the size of the tin quantity. The shape of the soldering iron head is divided into the following categories according to the position and appearance of the tin: tip (long garden head) welding tip: The tip end is fine, suitable for fine welding, or the welding space is narrow, and can also correct the tin bridge generated when welding the chip.

2) Conical (round head) welding tip: non-directional, the entire front end of the soldering iron head can be welded, suitable for general welding, regardless of the size of the solder joint, can be used.
3) One-word batch (chisel) welding nozzle: welding on both sides, suitable for welding requiring a large amount of tin, such as welding area, thick terminals, welding pad large welding environment.
4) Knife (K shape) welding tip: welding with the knife face, suitable for drag welding, suitable for SOJ, PLCC, SOP, QFP, power supply, grounding components, modified tin bridge, connector welding.
5) Bevel cylindrical (horseshoe) welding nozzle: welding with the inclined part of the front end of the soldering iron head (generally 45°), suitable for welding that requires a large amount of tin. Some soldering iron head only the inclined part of the tin layer, welding only the inclined part
Just put on the tin. It is suitable for large welding area, coarse terminals and large solder joints. The micro soldering iron head is very fine, suitable for welding small components, or to correct the tin bridge, tin column, etc., produced during surface welding. If only a small amount of solder is needed for welding, it is more suitable to use a soldering iron tip with tin plating only on the bevel. Medium diameter soldering iron head is suitable for welding resistors, diodes and other components, SOP and QFP chips with large pin distance. Large diameter soldering iron head is suitable for thick terminals, electric
The ground on the board, the power supply part and other welding occasions require large heat.
6) H-type (duck-shaped) welding tip: applicable to SOP, QFP and other chips with large gap between the tensioned welded pins.
A flux with high activity or causticity will accelerate the corrosion of the soldering iron tip when heated, so a low-corrosive flux should be selected.
